The BJP denied ticket to sitting MP Krishna Raj and fielded Arun Sagar who faced Brahma Swaroop Sagar of the Congress and Amar Chandra Jauhar of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
The constituency went to polls in the fourth phase of the general elections on April 29.

Shahjahanpur Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 80 seats in Uttar Pradesh. The constituency is part of Shahjahanpur district in Uttar Prades and comprises six Assembly constituencies - Dadraul, Jalalabad, Katra, Powayan, Shahjahanpur and Tilhar.
Shahjahanpur is a reserved seat where only candidates from scheduled caste (SC) can contest elections. It was a general seat before 2009 polls and was reserved only after 2008 delimitation exercise. Once known as the bastion of Jitendra Prasad, this is one of the very few seats in the state where the Congress had some base in recent past. After his demise, his son Jitin Prasada contested the election in 2004 and won.
In 2009, as Shahjahanpur became a reserved seat, he moved to Dhaurahra Lok Sabha constituency where he won by more than 1.84 lakh votes. Mithlesh Kumar of the Samajwadi Party defeated Sunita Singh of the BSP to win the seat in that year's Lok Sabha elections.
In 2014, Krishna Raj won the seat for the BJP as she polled 5.25 lakh votes (46.45%) against BSP candidate Umed Singh Kashyap's 2.89 (25.62%) lakh votes. Mithlesh Kumar, the sitting was pushed to third place as the SP only got 2.42 lakh votes.
Lok Sabha Elections 2019: State Profile
In the last parliamentary elections in 2014, the BJP had won 71 seats in the state, securing 42.63 per cent of the votes. BJP ally Apna Dal bagged two more. The Samajwadi Party had won five seats with a vote share of 22.35 per cent. The BSP did not win any seat but secured 19.77 per cent votes. The Congress registered wins on two UP seats in 2014, bagging 7.53 per cent of the votes.
UP is facing a triangular battle between the BJP, the Congress and BSP-SP-RLD alliance. Under the alliance's seat-sharing formula, the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) is contesting on 38 Lok Sabha seats of the total 80 seats, Akhilesh Yadav's Samajwadi Party on 37 seats and the Chaudhary Ajit Singh's Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD) on three seats. The alliance has left two for Congress' Sonia Gandhi (Rae Bareli) and Rahul Gandhi (Amethi).
