A crime scene has been set up after a woman's body was found near tennis courts on Saturday morning. 

Investigators have been told the woman, who is yet to be identified, was discovered in on Elliott Avenue in Parkville, in Melbourne, at about 9.15am.

The exact cause of the woman's death is yet to be determined, and it's not yet known if police are treating the death as suspicious.

A number of police vehicles are in the park and have cordoned off a large area between the North Park Tennis Club and the Flemington Road Cricket Oval

A number of police cars and vans and a State Emergency Service truck are parked on the scene.    

Officers have cordoned off a large area between the North Park Tennis Club and the Flemington Road Cricket Oval, The Age reported. 

A forensic team in face masks and gloves are examining the area inside the police tape - which is surrounded by thick bushes and trees. 

A damaged is parked around 400 metres from the tennis club, with police saying the silver Audi was next to the road when they arrived on the scene this morning. 

Meanwhile dozens of police officers have been seen searching the area for evidence.

Detectives and uniformed police officers are stationed near the tennis courts, where parents and their children are playing tennis.   

Media have been instructed to stay at least 50 metres away from the crime scene.  

At this stage authorities are refusing to reveal further details on the woman or the circumstances surrounding her death. 

Investigations are ongoing.
