NW Nagpur goes sans power for 2 hrs

Nagpur: Over 4,000 consumers in the north-west part of the city went without power for two hours on Saturday afternoon when a 33 KV SNDL cable developed a major snag. The affected areas were KT Nagar, Jafar Nagar, Borgaon, Friends Colony, Welcome Society, Gorewada Road etc. Power went off at around 3.30 pm and supply was restored after 5.30 pm.
An SNDL official said that two 11 KV feeders emerge from 33 KV Gorewada substation. “The 33 KV cable supplying the two feeders developed a snag at the point of supply. All the three phases were affected and hence no back feeding was possible. During peak summer the power infrastructure does not have the capacity to supply extra areas,” he added.

The official further said that the fault had developed due to overloading. “We have connected a lot of new consumers in last two years. The infrastructure has been augmented too but still there are problems due to various reasons,” he added.
Residents of Welcome Society were worst affected. SNDL had taken a planned shutdown at 12 noon to charge a new transformer. As soon as the process was over, supply was affected due to cable breakdown. As a result the consumers had to go without power for over 5.30 hours.
