Coimbatore: The city police have formed a special team to nab two youths, who killed an autorickshaw driver at Thayir Itteri near Rathinapuri on May 20.
Police identified the victim as N Raju, 59, of Subbathal Layout at Rathinapuri. “On May 20 around 8pm, he noticed Govindan and Manikandan, who were working as labourers, fighting with each other at Thayir Itteri. Raju intervened and tried to pacify the youths. But the youths, who were heavily drunk, grabbed wooden logs and attacked Raju. He suffered severe injuries on his head, face, hands and legs and was admitted in the Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital. He died without responding to the treatment on Friday night,” a police officer said.
The Rathinapuri (law&order) police have registered a case against Govindan and Manikandan under sections 75 (i) (c ) of Tamil Nadu City Police Act, 323, 324 and 506 (ii) of the Indian Penal Code. On Sunday, Rathinapuri police altered the section to 302 (murder). TNN
