The fire had claimed 22 lives and 18 of the victims were females. Of the 15 who jumped out of the building and survived, 11 are males.
“It is shocking to know that the girls had a painful death because they could not jump out of the building. It is risky to jump from a height but those who jumped out, majority of them were boys and they survived,” a police officer said.

The charred bodies of the girls were found in two corners of the classes where they had moved to avoid the smoke. Panic-stricken girls hugged each other and majority of the bodies could not be identified by the family members of the deceased. “It was difficult to separate the bodies as they had got stuck to each other. It was proving difficult even to lift the bodies as they had got completely burnt in the fire,” said a civilian, who had helped fire and police in carrying out the rescue operation.
Five females and a male had died when they jumped out from the building and suffered head injuries. Others who jumped out to escape the fire, a few of them are under treatment different private and government hospitals.
