Maharashtra youth tries to end life over poll results

KOLHAPUR: A dejected worker of the Nationalist Congress Party who was hoping for the victory of candidate Sanjay Shinde in the Lok Sabha elections consumed poison in a bid to end his life on learning the Madha constituency Lok Sabha election results.
He is currently battling for life at a hospital of Barshi city. The seat was won by BJP candidate Ranjeetsinha Naik-Nimbalkar.
Police said the party worker consumed poison on Thursday, when election results were announced. The youth, Pandurang Shinde (24), is a farmer and resident of Shindewadi in Madha taluka of Solapur.

Madha police told TOI that Pandurang Shinde was found unconscious in his village. He was rushed to the primary health centre (PHC), and when his condition deteriorated, he was taken to the hospital at Barshi.
The Solapur police have recorded a medico-legal case. Madha police said Shinde's family knew the results had come as a shock to him. Police have yet to get a formal statement from Pandurang Shinde.
