Varanasi: A
zila panchayat member was shot dead by three men at Gosande Salarpur village in Karanda area of Ghazipur on Friday night.
As per reports, around 9.30pm on Friday, the victim, Vijay Yadav alias Pappu, was sitting with his friends, when the attackers approached him on a motorcycle and opened fire. While the attackers fled the scene, Yadav sustained three bullet injuries.
Local residents tried rushing him to Banaras Hindu University’s Trauma Centre, but he succumbed to his injuries on way to the hospital. On Saturday, newly elected MP from Ghazipur Afzal Ansari staged a demonstration by keeping Yadav’s body on road. He demanded Rs 1 crore in compensation and an arms licence for Yadav’s family. Ansari and his supporters also demanded the suspension of Karanda station officer.
“We would intensify out protest if the local administration fails to nab the attackers within the next 48 hours,” Ansari said.
The protesting politician agreed to end the agitation after district officials assured him of prompt action.
SP (Ghazipur ) Arvind Chaturvedi said four teams of police are investigating the case and are looking for the attackers.
