A day after stunning victories in Telangana by garnering four Lok Sabha constituencies, including three in ruling Telangana Rastra Samithi (TRS) strongholds of Nizamabad, Karimanagar and Adilabad, the Bharatiya Janata Party said it will be making use of this momentum for the forthcoming municipal polls.
The State office was choc-a-block with party activists and leaders greeting each other, distributing sweets and dancing to the drum beats and waving of party flags to celebrate the ‘historic’ win at the Centre and the ‘unprecedented’ victories in the State.
As party bigwigs like party chief K. Laxman, N. Ramchander and others felicitated three of the four winners - G. Kishan Reddy from Secunderabad, Bandi Sanjay from Karimnagar, and S. Babu Rao of Adilabad, the common message was that the party would now aim to “do a Karnataka in Telangana” in the coming days.
Disparaging remarks
“This is a dream come true to all of us as we have been holding afloat the party flag despite severe setbacks over the years. Disparaging remarks were made by TRS leaders after Telangana Assembly elections but now thanks to the Narendra Modi tsunami, there is a festive atmosphere everywhere,” said Mr. Laxman.
While it was a “positive vote” for the Narendra Modi government at the Centre, in Telangana, people have decided to teach a lesson to the K. Chandrasekhar Rao-led TRS government “seethed in arrogance of power,” he said. In a way, people have given their decisive vote against the “family rule” by defeating the political heirs, said Mr. Laxman.
The BJP leader said people have responded against the disparaging remarks made by Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao, hurting the religious sentiments, by electing party candidates with substantial majorities in all the winning constituencies.
