'They take advantage of you': Amputee reveals how people with bizarre fetishes for disabled people beg him to send them pictures of his 'stumps'

A former youth Paralympian has warned disabled people of 'devotees' - those who have a 'disturbing' fetish for amputees or people with disabilities.

Adam Bowes, a former champion swimmer from Yamba, New South Wales, released a video on his YouTube channel slamming people who try to take advantage of those living with physical impairments.

Mr Bowes, 25, warned those living with disabilities not to share any photos or videos showing their amputated limbs as the images can end up on adult sites.

Devotees have been described as able-bodied people who have a physical and sexual interest in those who are disabled or amputees.

Mr Bowes says devotees seek a feeling of dominance that they have over the disabled person.

The 25-year-old lost both his legs from the knee down at age two, after being born without a tibia bone in each limb.

In the video he recounted receiving missed calls and messages from people who asked to see photos of his amputated legs.

He warned that 'disturbing' people will request to see images of people's 'stumps' and then sell the photos.

'They will find your photos and use them and sell them to internet sites. It's disgusting,' he said.

Mr Bowes also warned people of 'wannabees' those who want to be an amputee or have a physical disability.

'People who think their life will be enriched from being an amputee' Mr Bowes said in his video.

Some people will join social media groups pretending to have a disability just to get pictures of people's physical impairments.

'Be careful who you're talking to, don't add someone unless you know them,' Mr Bowes said.

'These people will take advantage of you.'
