The myth created by the DMK that AMMK has split the base of AIADMK cost the ruling party dear in the Lok Sabha poll and by-election held for 22 Assembly constituencies, said Minister for Dairy Development K.T. Rajenthra Bhalaji.

Talking to reporters here on Thursday night after his party candidate M. S. R. Rajavarman won the Sattur by-election by a whisker, Mr. Bhalaji said that the DMK’s continuous propaganda resulted in AIADMK votes getting split by the AMMK.

“The propaganda created confusion in the minds of neutral voters and they thought that the AIADMK will not win the election. Those who wanted to vote for the winning party chose to vote for the DMK combine,” he said. However, he said that the victory of DMK alliance in the Lok Sabha election did not amount to people voting against the AIADMK.

“People have given us enough strength in the Assembly and also taught us certain lessons,” the Minister said. “They have told us to continue with our good work and also to avoid in-fighting,” he added. He said that the party would come up with a strategy to win the local body elections and also the next Assembly election.

Stating that in the present election the only party that could not burst crackers was the AMMK, he said, “By floating the AMMK, they ruined (the chances of AIADMK) in the election and people have taught them a befitting lesson.” Mr. Bhalaji said that many from the AMMK would come back to the AIADMK.

The DMK created a confusion in the minds of people of Sivakasi that if Modi government came back to power, the fireworks industry would be closed for ever. “Despite that we managed to win the Sattur Assembly seat,” Mr. Bhalaji said.

He said that the DMK alliance would not be able to bring anything good for the State. “Only the AIADMK and its Chief Minister can bring the funds required for development of the State,” he added.
