Nagpur: Aggrieved teachers and non-teaching staff are left in the lurch as Nagpur University's
Grievance Committee set up to hear, settle and decide their complaints is not functioning for last six months. The post of chairman of the committee had fallen vacant due to demise of Justice (retd) Prabhu P Patil thus bringing the system to a halt.
After vice-chancellor SP Kane failed to name a new chairman in Patil’s place, there has been huge pendency of appeals filed by aggrieved teachers and members of the non-teaching staff.
The university had constituted the grievance committee as required under Section 79 (1) of the Maharashtra Public Universities Act, 2016, to deal with all types of grievances of teachers and other employees of the university, affiliated and autonomous colleges, recognized institutions and to decide the grievances within three months from the date of filing of the complaint.
The constitution of the committee was notified by the university on September 4, 2017.
Former secretary of NUTA Anil Dhage submitted a representation to Kane seeking appointment of the committee chairman at the earliest. Dhage said not a single case has been decided in the last one year though the norms call for settling them within three months.
In his letter to VC, Dhage said, “I have to request you to immediately nominate the chairman of the Grievance Committee so that its functioning is resumed at the earliest and grievances are settled within reasonable time as contemplated by the Act.”
Kane didn’t answer to TOI’s calls.
