Couple held for kidnapping 3-year-old boy

The Salem City Police arrested a couple for kidnapping a three-year-old boy here recently. The couple’s minor daughter, who was also involved in the crime, was sent to juvenile home.

On May 22, B. Yogeshwaran was playing in front of his house in Shevapet when he went missing. On a complaint from the boy’s mother, the Shevapet police started investigation. Later, the boy was found near Selathampatti.

With the help of CCTV footage in the area, the police found that a woman and a girl was involved in the crime. On investigation, it was found that Velavan, his wife Revathi and their minor daughter kidnapped the boy and demanded a ransom of ₹ 2 lakh.

According to police, Velavan runs a mobile shop and has acquaintance with the boy’s parents. Since his business was running into loss and he was facing loan issues, they kidnapped the boy for ransom which, he thought, could be used to settle his loans. The couple was remanded in custody.
