2019 Ford Mustang GT PP2 Battles 2018 Chevy Camaro SS 1LE On The Road

The eternal war between the Ford Mustang and the Chevy Camaro continues with a new battle between the factory-tuned variants.

They are not the full-blown Shelby GT500 and ZL1 (although we can’t wait for that comparison), but the 2019 Mustang GT Performance Pack 2 (PP2) and the 2018 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1LE are non too shabby either.

Both are V8-powered, rear-wheel-drive muscle cars that cost about the same and are evenly matched when it comes to performance numbers. Additionally, both have been given the hardcroe treatment by their makers to make them more focused as well as fun to drive

In the Mustang’s case, this includes a lowered sports suspension with MagneRide damping, Brembo piston front brakes, stiffer anti-roll bars, and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Power (460 horses to be exact) comes from a 5.0-liter V8 linked to a six-speed manual transmission that’s connected to the rear wheels. What more could an enthusiast ask for?

Well, the Camaro SS 1LE is an equally enticing proposition as it offers similar upgrades including Magnetic Ride Control, Brembo brakes, stiffer sway bars and sticky Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3 tires. However, it also brings stuff that is not available on the Mustang, such as the eLSD (electronically controlled limited-slip differential) and Performance Data Recorder. Its 6.2-liter V8 pumps out 455 horsepower that’s also channeled to the rear wheels via a six-speed manual.

In this video, Throttle House examines how the two compare when it comes to driving dynamics as well as how they are to live with every day. Surprisingly, perhaps, they don’t come anywhere near track as the whole point was to find out whether they could be used as everyday rides as well.
