Man charged with importing videos of children after Brisbane airport arrest
An Australian-British national has been charged after he was allegedly caught with child exploitation material at Brisbane International Airport.
Australian Border Force officers searched the 20-year-old's baggage when he got off his flight from Abu Dhabi on May 14.
A mobile phone and laptop containing a large number of images and videos classified as child exploitation were found and seized, the ABF said.
The man was arrested and charged with one count of importation of a prohibited import.
The maximum penalty for importing child exploitation material is 10 years imprisonment and a maximum fine of $525,000.
He will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on May 29.
ABF Regional Commander for Queensland Terry Price said possessing child exploitation material was a very serious offence under Australian law.
“Tackling child exploitation is an operational priority for the ABF as part of its role protecting the border from individuals who may pose a threat to the community,” he said.
