Paula Zavalia, 29, from Buenos Aires in Argentina, took the images of the Instagram-worthy waters while visiting the Hutt Lagoon, in the mid-west region of Western Australia, earlier this month.

The stunning lagoon -  which is separated from the Indian Ocean by a narrow stretch of sand - contains the world's largest microalgae production plant which creates its infamous pink hue.

'I wanted to go to that place for a long time - the water there has hues of amazing colours, mostly pink and orange,' Ms Zavalia said.

'That is because the algae with special properties that grows there.'

The seasoned visual artist captured the lagoon's complexion in a way which highlighted the contrasting colours and showed how they effortlessly merged together.

In one image the lagoon mirrors a sunset with a hue of pink, red and orange which creates a look strikingly similar to when the sun dips below the horizon.

Hutt Lagoon's iconic colouring comes from the presence of the caroteinoid-producing algae, which is a source of beta-carotene; a food-colouring agent and a great source of Vitamin A.

Dunaliella salina is commonly used in cosmetics and dietary supplements.

The picturesque waters were previously captured on camera by a kitesurfer.

Video footage shows a woman gliding expertly over the shallow water against the pink backdrop of the Hutt Lagoon.

She is careful, however, to avoid the giant salt crystals which cover the ground.

'It was very difficult to do this footage of kitesurfing because the ground is very sharp from giant salt crystals everywhere,' the video is captioned.
