NEW DELHI: With the election over, attention immediately shifted to the likely shape of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's new team, with speculation swirling over whether BJP chief Amit Shah would join it.

While there have been no formal consultations yet on ministry-making, party sources reckon there is a strong possibility of Shah taking up one of the crucial portfolios. A call on Shah’s new role can be tricky because of the transformation he brought about in BJP, turning what was a languid organisation into a relentless poll machine. There are doubts whether an effective substitute can be found.
Allies Shiv Sena, JD(U), LJP, Akali Dal and Apna Dal are sure to join in. However, with BJP having a majority of its own, it will be under no compulsion to mollycoddle the partners. As in PM Modi's first term, BJP is likely to retain important portfolios.
