PATA organizes human capacity building programme in Malaysia

Between May 22-23, 2019 the event was hosted by the Sabah Tourism Board (STB) which had 40 travel industry professionals from different states of Malaysia along with Brunei Darussalam.

 

 

Key-insights were provided on how destinations and oragnisations can prepare for the risks which might evolve into a crisis.

 

 

There were a series of classroom session conducted by leading travel experts along with practical activities and networking opportunities.

 

PATA CEO Dr. Mario Hardy said that nforeseen events were happening around the world which were  affecting tourism.It affected the way they live and quite often are not prepared for it. Over the next two days  some key skills will be imparted so that one can learn to prepare . Because the question is not about if you will have another crisis, but it’s a question of when it will happen.

 

Noredah Othman, Acting General Manager – Sabah Tourism Board felt honoured to welcome speakers and participants from many states of Malaysia and Brunei to the PATA Human Capacity Building Programme on Risk Mitigation and Crisis Recovery Management workshop organised by PATA and hosted by the Sabah Tourism Board and PATA.

 

He said that Sabah has faced many challenges such as economic downturn, the SARS epidemic, bird flu and earthquakes.  He was glad that the Sabah tourism industry, both public and private sector, are resilient and cohesive in working together.

 

 

He said that this  workshop can develop a strong and effective plan and set up a team in charge of risk mitigation and crisis recovery in the near future to ensure the safety of our tourists visiting Sabah.

The programme was led Dr. Bert van Walbeek, The Winning Edge, Thailand and John Bailey, Managing Consultant, Crisis Communications Consulting, Singapore.
