THANE: An 80-year-old man died after suffering heart attack right outside the Thane railway station on Wednesday morning.
Fellow passengers claimed that Mahendra Joshi, a Kalbadevi resident, could have been saved if he had received prompt medical attention, but the medical room located a few feet away was shut since last week.

"The medical room has been shut since May 15..." confirmed a senior railway official, citing breach of contract by the previous contractor as the reason. As many as 15 incidents of passenger suffering injuries have been reported at the station over the last week and commuters were forced to rush to the nearest hospital.
Joshi was found unconscious around 7am in a toilet on platform number 2. He was taken to the civil hospital where he was declared dead, sources said. An accidental death report was registered.
