Ludhiana: Government College for Girls (GCG) will begin its registration process from first week of June. The students will have to pay Rs 50 to get prospectus from the college that will have all the requires details after which they can register online for no charge.
The 76-year-old college has 26 subjects to pick from and there are 10 postgraduate departments.
College principal Savita Sharma said, ‘The registration will be online and the process will kick start from the first week of June and end in the third week of the month. The prospectus fee will be Rs 50 and every instruction will be written there. The students will have to read the prospectus carefully before enrolling for registration.”
She added, “Most of the students go to internet café to fill up the form. They charge the students a hefty amount and do not even fill correct information. Now the students will have to thoroughly read the instructions in the prospectus so that their application form is not rejected. All instructions, rules and regulations have been mentioned in the prospectus. For the students who live in far off places, prospectus will be delivered to them by post.”
There will be registration number or barcode on the prospectus that will further be used to fill online applications. Registration doesn’t guarantee admission as the latter is entirely based on merit.
Several students have started thronging the college campus. According to them, the college website doesn’t display information due to which they are visiting the college.
Pooja Sarkar, who has recently passed Class XII in commerce stream from Ramghariya School,wants to pursue BCA from the college. She said, “I am eager to take admission in this college due to nominal fees. I have visited the college website, but there was no information on display so I have come to get information from the college authorities.”
Her friend Muskan Rani, who had arts in Class XII with 74% marks, wants to pursue BA with sociology, physical education and computer. She said, “Besides nominal fees, exposure to youth festivals is also the reason to get admission here. I would be keen to take part in youth festivals.”
The college has an NCC wing besides various clubs like red ribbon club and rotary club. The college gates will be closed from 10am– 1:40pm while the hostel can accommodate only 270 students.
