In the 2019 Odisha Assembly elections, Padampur, recorded a voter turnout of 78.48%. The voter turnout in the 2014 Assembly elections was 79.5% and in 2009, 75.5% of Padampur's voters came out to elect their Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA).

In the 2014 Odisha state Assembly elections, Pradip Purohit of BJP won in this seat defeating BJD's candidate by a margin of 4,513 votes which was 2.53% of the total votes polled. Pradip Purohit polled a total of 1,78,332 (44.15%) votes.

BJD's Bijaya Ranjan Singh Bariha won this seat in the 2009 Odisha Assembly elections beating the INC candidate by a margin of 18066 (11.75%) votes. Bijaya Ranjan Singh Bariha polled 1,53,818 which was 44.15% of the total votes polled.

Padampur went to the polls in Phase 2 of the 2019 Odisha Assembly polls on Thursday, April 18, 2019. The election results for the seat are scheduled for Thursday, May 23, 2019.
