Noida: Residents from several sectors across the city have been complaining about the garbage being pulled out from the drains and dumped on the roadside for several days. Foul smell emanates from this
waste, thus making life miserable for both residents and passerbys.
“The big
drain in Sector 51 was cleaned 15 days ago but till date, the garbage from the drain has been left on the roadside. Even the small drains made alongside the big drain is also full of garbage,” said Sanjeev Kumar, the RWA general secretary of Sector 51.
This dumped garbage eventually becomes a breeding ground for the mosquitoes which in turn poses as a health hazard for the residents. “Only 80% of the garbage is picked up from the roadsides but the rest 20% is never picked up,” said Rajiva Singh, the president of Noida Federation of Apartments Owners Association (NOFAA).
Meanwhile, the Noida Authority maintains that any violators found dumping garbage in drains would be penalised according to the NGT norms.
“The work of cleaning the drains of the city is underway. Under this arrangement, solid waste will be cleaned from the drains. Anyone found dumping solid waste in the drains will be penalised according to the NGT guidelines,” said Rajesh Kumar Singh, OSD, Noida Authority.
