President’s rule must end at the earliest: J&K Governor Satya Pal Malik

Srinagar: Jammu & Kashmir governor Satya Pal Malik said the President’s rule in the state should end at the earliest, but it was for the Election Commission to take the final call on when to hold assembly elections in the state.

Malik said his administration was keen on the transfer of power to an elected government.

He was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event Wednesday to inaugurate the second phase of a flyover here. J&K came under governor rule in June 2018, when the BJP pulled out of the then ruling coalition with the People’s Democratic Party in the state. The governor rule ended after six months in December, followed by President’s rule, which still continues.

EC is likely to announce the dates of assembly polls any time after declaring the results of the LS polls.
