Noida: A homeopath and a clinic owner have been arrested in Greater Noida for allegedly stealing cars from people known to the
doctor.
Police said that Kapil Verma, the doctor who claimed to have been associated with two private hospitals in Greater Noida and Meerut and his accomplice, Rahul Sharma, were nabbed from near Kasna’s Dominos roundabout at around midnight on Wednesday.
Two stolen cars — a Swift and a Brezza — have been recovered from their possession. While the Swift that was stolen on March 3 from near the Greater Noida Authority office in Gamma 2 belongs to a physiotherapist named Nizamuddin, the Brezza lifted from Kultar Singh Nagar in Sadar Bazaar area is owned by Pradeep Jain.
Kapil, police said, would target car owners mostly in his friend circle. First, he would demand their vehicles for an errand. And after getting a car, he would install a GPS device and get a duplicate key of the vehicle made. Using that key, Rahul would later steal the car by tracking its location after a few days.
Kapil, a resident of Baghpat village, and Ghaziabad resident Rahul had ties with the gang of criminal Keshav Pandit in Meerut and they would use the alliance to get the duplicate keys made, police said.
“Verma claimed to be a visiting doctor in Greater Noida’s Navin Hospital and a private hospital in Meerut. When a police team was sent to Navin hospital, authorities there denied the same. It was found that he would only send referral patients to different hospitals,” said SP (rural) Vineet Jaiswal.
Police have seized his Bachelor of Electro-homeopathy & Medical Science (BEMS) degree. The credibility of the degree is being verified, police said.
Jaiswal said in the Brezza theft case, Pradeep’s son Rajat seemed to be involved as it was he who had helped the doctor get the car’s keys. “Rajat wanted the insurance money after lodging an FIR in the case. His father was unaware about his son’s plans,” he said.
Kapil had earlier been booked for assault on his wife under the Dowry Prohibition Act.
