Education Secretary Betsy DeVos is becoming a lightning rod for Democrats on the 2020 campaign trail.
Several candidates have taken jabs at DeVos at recent campaign events as they try to energize voters and curry favor with the nation's two major teachers unions.
Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts said this month that DeVos is the "worst secretary of education we've seen." Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota said DeVos "shouldn't be in her job." And former Texas Rep. Beto O'Rourke said of DeVos, "We can do better."
Democratic strategists say it's a savvy move that taps into the left's outrage over DeVos and her policies, especially her support for school choice.
But some question whether it will yield more than a brief boost for the candidates.
The Education Department declined to comment.
