Janata Dal (Secular) chief and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda's grandson Prajwal Revanna is leading by over 1.2 lakh votes in Hassan Lok Sabha seat in Karnataka.

As on 12:00 pm, Prajwal Revanna has secured 5.70 lakh votes while his nearest rival BJP's A Manju has secured 4.45 votes.

Results of the Hassan Lok Sabha seat in Karnataka will be keenly watched today in the state because Janata Dal (Secular) founder and former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda's grandson Prajwal Revanna is in the fray from this seat.

JD(S) is the ruling party in Karantaka alongwith the Congress. The fight in Hassan Lok Sabha seat is a prestige battle for the JD(S). A lot is at stake in these Lok Sabha elections for the JD(S), which came to power last year with support from the Congress.

Prajwal Revanna's father HD Revanna is the PWD minister in Karnataka.

As of 9:20 am, the BJP+ was leading in 23 seats, the Congeress-JDS alliance in 5 seats.

The seat has been a stronghold of the Janata Dal (Secular). It had been represented by HD Deve Gowda for a long time. Deve Gowda won five elections from this seat. However, in 1999 he did suffer a defeat.

Other candidates in Hassan are BJP's A Manju, who was earlier with the Congress. Beside him, there are BSP's K H Vinodraj, H M Chandregowda and two independents.

Karantaka is an important state as it sends 25 MPs to the Lok Sabha. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, the BJP won most of these seats. The India Today-Axis My India exit poll has predicted that the BJP will be able to repeat its performance even in the 2019 Lok Sabha election.
