Indore: Shankar Lalwani is Indore’s Lal

Indore: Riding high on Modi Tsunami BJP candidate Shankar Lalwani got overwhelming victory in Lok Sabha Elections on Thursday. Among 22 candidates, Lalwani defeated nearest rival and Congress Party Candidate Pankaj Sanghvi by huge margin of 547,754 votes on the virtually one sided contest. Only 5,045 votes went to NOTA. In the direct fight, BJP candidates Lalwani never allowed Sanghvi to get edge over him in any round or in any assembly constituency. In the counting of votes held at Nehru Stadium, entire counting process completed in peaceful manner. At around 6pm Collector and District Returning Officer Lokesh Kumar Jatav declared Lalwani as the winning candidate.

Total 162,407 voters had exercised their franchise in the voting held last Sunday, which was 69.66% of total number of votes. However in the counting, 487 votes found invalid. Lalwani got 106,8569 votes while Sanghvi got 520,815 votes. In this way Lalwani defeated Sanghvi by margin of huge 547,754 votes. BSP candidate Deepchand Ahirwal got just 8,666 votes and stood at third position. Lalwani got 1,745 postal ballet votes, while Sanghvi received just 547 votes and BSP candidate Ahirwal only 44 votes. Rest of 17 candidates did not receive double digit votes from postal ballets. FAST AND SMOOTH COUNTING Earlier in the day, postal ballets were brought from Collector office to the Stadium at 6am. At 7.30pm seals of strong rooms were broken. The counting of votes from Control Units and Postal ballets started simultaneously at 8am in 8 different halls of the stadium at 14 tables in each hall.

The counting postal ballets were done in a separate hall. To reduce the unnecessary time of the carrying EVM from strong room to counting hall, the counting halls were set just adjacent to strong room. The counting agents of any political party did not take any objection, resulted in completing the entire counting process smooth and fast manner. Ultimately, DEO could able to declare the result formally at 6.30pm. JATAV HANDS OVER CERTIFICATE TO LALWANI At the end of courting, Collector and District Election Officer Lokesh Kumar Jatav handed over the certificate of victory to Lalwani at 6.30pm. On this occasion outgoing Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan, BJP MLAs Ramesh Mandola, Mahendra Hardia and Akash Vijayvargiya were also present.
