CHANDIGARH:
Panjab University (PU) has decided
not to enhance any examination fee for students this year. A committee constituted by vice-chancellor convened a meeting on May 8 and decided since enrolment in PU-affiliated colleges was going down, increasing the examination fee would have a negative impact.
A total of 15 members took part in the meeting chaired by the dean of university instructions professor Shankarji Jha on May 8. The matter was discussed thoroughly and representatives from
affiliated colleges expressed their concern regarding the decline in admission. It was recommended no enhancement in examination fee and other related charges be made for the 2019-20 academic session.
Last year, PU had enhanced the exam fee from Rs 2,500 to Rs 2,575. However, earlier it was slated to be increased by 10%, subject to a
maximum hike of Rs 200. The exam fee hike, last year, for the EWS students was initially the same, however, it was rolled back after the Panjab University Campus Students' Council protested. Now, the syndicate will decide on the examination fee in its meeting on May 28.
The syndicate will also decide on the proposal for appointment of the adjunct faculty as per the UG) guidelines. The syndicate is also going to decide on extension of NSS coordinator. The syndicate will decide on extension of dean student welfare professor Emanual Nahar, DSW women professor Neena Caplash and associate DSW professor Ranjan Kumar. Their term will get over on May 31.
