Ludhiana: Northern Railway has sacked a ticket-checking official at Ludhiana railway station for not performing his duty efficiently and causing losses to the railways by generating less fine from unauthorised travellers.
In a press release issued here, the railways said they had removed Ludhiana station chief inspector (ticket checking) Kawaljit Singh. The railways have also sacked ticket inspectors Raj Kumar Sharma and Chamkaur Singh, both deputed at Jammu station.
A source in the railways said the action came after the vigilance branch of Norther Railways inspected 100-plus long-route trains to checfk how ticket-checking staff worked. “It was found that the three had not been performing their duty honestly,” said the source.
Ludhiana railway station director Abhinav Singla said the railways had found “some discrepancies” in the staff’s working for several months. “Though I cannot ascertain the exact reason behind the action, it was done after following a procedure,” he said. “Railways have given strict guidelines to all clerical and ticket-checking staff to works as per norms.”
