Toyota To Restart Production Of Mk3 And Mk4 Supra Parts

Toyota has revealed that it will put numerous third-generation and fourth-generation Supra parts back into production.

Gazoo Racing company president Shigeki Tomoyama announced the move at a recent event held in Japan to celebrate the launch of the latest-generation Supra. It has yet to be revealed which parts will be put back into production.

“We can not answer about specific parts at this time, but we will make every effort to meet the expectations of owners,” Tomoyama said.

The initiative is dubbed the ‘GR Heritage Parts Project’ and is similar to a program launched last year by Nissan. On the back of demand from customers, Nissan restarted production on numerous parts for the R33 and R34-generation Skyline GT-Rs in 2018 and in 2017, started building new parts for the R32-generation GT-R.

Elsewhere in the industry, Mazda has started offering new parts for the first-generation Miata and Honda has long offered a parts program for the original NSX sports car.

The announcement of factory support for the third- and fourth-generation Supras comes just a few months after the 2020 model debuted.

The fifth-generation Supra is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine sourced from BMW with 335 hp and 365 lb-ft (494 Nm) of torque. Mated to this engine is a ZF eight-speed automatic transmission sending power to the rear wheels, allowing the car to reach 62 mph (100 km/h) in just 4.1 seconds. Toyota also sells the 2020 Supra in Japan with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine but it remains to be seen if this engine will be offered elsewhere.
