Tourism Ireland welcomes this week’s visit by The King and Queen of Sweden, which is good news for tourism and a unique opportunity to convince potential holidaymakers in Sweden to visit Ireland during 2019.

During their time here, the royal couple will enjoy our wonderful culture, food and hospitality – with visits to Croke Park (for a demonstration of our Gaelic games), the National Museum of Ireland, Trinity College and the Burren Smokehouse.

A number of Swedish journalists have travelled here to cover the visit, bringing the story to people across Sweden. Tourism Ireland aims to inspire Swedish holidaymakers to come and follow in the royal couple’s footsteps, with inviting messages which demonstrate the friendliness, welcome and fun for which Ireland is renowned. The organisation’s promotional activity to leverage the tourism benefits of the visit includes extensive social media activity – on Facebook and Twitter – sharing images of the royal couple at our visitor attractions and joining in the positive online conversations about Ireland.

Aileen Hickey, Tourism Ireland’s Manager for the Nordic Region, said: “This week’s visit by the King and Queen of Sweden is a wonderful opportunity to showcase Ireland to a wide audience of prospective holidaymakers across Sweden. A number of Swedish journalists have travelled here to cover the visit, bringing the story to hundreds of thousands of people in Sweden, and providing a truly unique opportunity to highlight Ireland as a wonderful holiday destination. Tourism Ireland will take every opportunity to exploit the tourism potential from the extensive publicity around the visit.

In 2018, we welcomed almost 83,000 Swedish arrivals to Ireland. Tourism Ireland is undertaking an extensive programme of promotions throughout 2019, to highlight the island of Ireland to Swedish and Nordic holidaymakers.”
