Noida: A five-year-old boy died after falling into an open drain in Sector 66’s Mamura area in the early hours of Tuesday. Police said the kid was playing outside a jhuggi in which he lived with his parents, when he slipped into the drain. Three other kids were present at the spot.
The child’s body was found at least a kilometre away of the spot where he slipped in. Police had to deploy excavators and other equipment to recover the body.
The deceased, identified as Deva , was originally from Klan village in Shahjahanpur. The five-year-old lived with his father Harishchandra and three siblings — Anshu, Renu and Bitta.
Deva stayed with his family near an SBI branch building in Mamura village in Phase 3 area.
The station house officer (SHO) of Phase 3 police station, Harinandan Sharma, said that after he received information about the child falling into the drain at 10am, he sent Mamura chowki in charge Ashok Chandel to the spot.
Sharma said that an excavator was sent to the spot along with other equipment, which were used to locate the body. The search operation was carried out by the police and some locals who jumped into the drain to locate the boy. Two other divers were also called to the spot.
“The body was found in the drain, around one kilometre away from the spot of the incident,” Sharma said. Police confirmed that the body of the child was recovered around 12 noon.
The body has been sent for post-mortem. No police complaint had been filed till late Monday evening.
