Greater Noida: A 26-year-old construction
worker died after being electrocuted while working on a
cement mixer at Jaypee Aman society in Sector 151 on Monday. Narayan was rushed to a nearby private hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.
Police have lodged a case of negligence against the project engineer and labour contractor for the under-construction site on the basis of a complaint by Narayan’s family and other workers. A native of Damoh district in Madhya Pradesh, Narayan had been working as a construction worker at the site for the past two months.
The accident occurred at the under-construction tower N-26 around 10am on Monday.
Santosh, another construction worker, said Narayan was mixing concrete while other workers were waiting alongside when there was a sudden power surge into the machine. “All of us felt the shock but since Narayan was standing closest to the machine, he shook silently for few seconds and then collapsed on the ground. We all rushed him to Sharda hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival,” he said.
According to Santosh, the
cement mixer machine had been malfunctioning for the past few days and they had informed labour contractor Narendra Kumar Sharma about the same. “We had urged the contractor to get the machine repaired, but that did not happen. The contractor has given Rs 50,000 to the deceased’s family as a compensation.”
“The project engineer and the labour contractor have been booked under IPC Section 304 A (causing death by negligence). The accused are currently on the run,” said Arvind Pathak, SHO of Knowledge Park police station.
A spokesperson for Jaypee said, “The electrocuted person was appointed by the contractor. The company extends its condolences to the family of deceased and is extending all possible support to the family.”
