Inter-faith couple ties knot at Bilhaur Kotwali

Abhishek Yadav (24) and Khushnuma (22) seek blessings after getting married at the police station
Kanpur: A young boy and girl, belonging to different religions, got their marriage solemnised at Bilhaur Kotwali premises on Tuesday. Abhishek Yadav (24) and Khushnuma (22), hailing from Jawahar Nagar and Murad Nagar pockets of Bilhaur area of the district, fell in love about an year ago, and later decided to elope and get married.
However, hell broke loose after the news of their plan surfaced. Khushnuma’s parents not only locked her up in the house but even made attempts to sever her relations with Abhishek. When Abhishek came to know about the treatment being meted out to his beloved, he went to meet her but was warned of dire consequences by her family members if he dared to visit her house again. After mustering courage, the young man approached the Bilhaur police.
On Tuesday morning, Abhishek, along with his parents and social activists, went to meet inspector Bilhaur Gyan Singh and briefed him about his affair.

On the inspector’s instructions, police went to Khushnuma’s house, and and after convincing her family members, brought her to the police station where Abhishek was waiting with his family members and friends.
Khushnuma gave a written undertaking stating that she had left her parental home on her own will, after which Abhishek’s family arranged an impromptu wedding at the police station premises itself. The couple exchanged garlands and Abhishek put vermilion on Khushnuma’s forehead. Inspector Bilhaur Kotwali Gyan Singh said, “Abhishek and his family members came to me and told me about their problem. After taking consent of the girl’s parents in writing, I got the two married with all necessary rituals at Bilhaur Kotwali police station”.
