Upset with Navjot Singh Sidhu, Punjab Congress wants brass to step in

Navjot Singh Sidhu
NEW DELHI: Punjab Congress is set to petition the central leadership over breach of discipline by its celebrity minister Navjot Singh Sidhu, with a view gaining ground that he was misusing his proximity to the top brass.

Sidhu’s remarks over inaction by the state government in case of desecration of the holy book of Sikhs during the Akali Dal regime, and his allegation of a nexus, has rattled the state Congress leadership.
While chief minister Amarinder Singh called his statement as harmful to the party interests and insinuated that he was motivated by chief ministerial aspirations, other ministers also lashed out at him and sought his resignation. There is a feeling that Sidhu has the “protection from Delhi”, which has encouraged him to continue with his independent actions.
