40-year-old stabbed to death at tea stall

The Ghatkopar police on Tuesday arrested Gopal Nadar (34), the third accused wanted for allegedly stabbing to death a 40-year-old man at 11.15 a.m. on Monday. On Monday night, the police had arrested Vijay Akhade (37) and Sanjay Patwa (29) and charged them with murder under the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Arms Act.

The police said that the victim, Sanjay Dubey, who was in the real estate business, was having tea at a stall near Amrut Nagar Metro station when the trio attacked him. An officer said, “The trio stabbed Dubey with sharp objects and fled the scene. Other customers at the stall rushed Dubey to Rajawadi Hospital, where he was declared dead before admission.”

Akhilesh Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone VII), said, “We traced Mr. Nadar to Pen in Raigad district and arrested him.” Mr. Singh said property disputes and personal animosity could have been the motive behind the murder.

An officer said that the accused and the victim often had several disputes and even filed criminal complaints against each other. They also filed Right to Information applications to obtain information to damage each other’s work.

The officer said, “It is also possible that a different party may have enlisted their services to kill Dubey. We are also probing this angle.”
