Your morning cup of tea is likely to get dearer, as Amul dairy has hiked prices of six categories of milk. The price hike will impact markets in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi, West Bengal, Uttarakhand, etc. Amul cited rising production cost, including costlier cattle feed and diesel, as the reason behind the price hike.
Accordingly, a 500 ml tetrapack of 'Amul Gold' in Ahmedabad will cost Rs 27, Amul Shakti will cost Rs 25, Rs 21 for Amul Taaza and Rs 28 for Amul Diamond. The hike comes after a gap of over two years. While cow milk prices in Gujarat have remained unchanged, the price was raised by Rs 2 per litre in Delhi, said the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which sells products under the Amul brand.
GCMMF said a drop in milk production also necessitated the price hike. "The price of corn has gone up by 63 per cent, of rice barn by 61 per cent and molasses by 82 per cent in one year, while that of diesel has increased by 20 per cent. Against this, the price hike of milk has only been about 4-5 per cent, that too after a gap of two years. This is lower than overall inflation of food items. About 80-84 per cent of the incremental income will be transferred to the farmers," said RS Sodhi, MD of GCMMF.
