PATIALA: Some candidates of major political parties couldn’t vote for themselves as they were outsiders and had their votes registered in some other
Lok Sabha constituency.
From
Anandpur Sahib, both Congress candidate
Manish Tewari and SAD-BJP candidate
Prem Singh Chandumajra could not cast their vote with their respective families for themselves as their vote falls under Fatehgarh Sahib and Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituencies. SAD candidate from Fatehgarh Sahib was also unable to vote for himself for the same reason.
Tewari is a voter in Ludhiana district and had cast his vote in Ludhiana in favour of party candidate Ravneet Singh Bittu, who is contesting in Ludhiana. Tewari is a former MP from Ludhiana Lok Sabha constituency and also remained an I&B minister. He was seeking a ticket for Chandigarh this time, where Pawan Kumar Bansal had retained the party candidature and contested on a Congress ticket. Vote of sitting MP Prem Singh Chandumajra falls in Chandumajra village of Sirhind in Fatehgarh Sahib and he also did not cast his vote. SAD’s Darbara Singh Guru is party candidate from Fatehgarh Sahib but he too is an outsider as his vote is in
Patiala. Chandumajra’s personal assistant Hardev Singh claimed that P S Chandumajra remained busy in keeping a vigil over his constituency, so he could not even cast his vote. “His vote falls in Fatehgarh Sahib. It was obvious he cannot vote for himself. But he did not cast his vote as he remained too much busy in getting reports about the constituency and the workers,” Hardev said.
In Fatehgarh Sahib, where two former IAS officers were contesting their fates, Guru could not cast his vote for him as it was registered in Ghanaur division of Patiala district. However, Fatehgarh Sahib Congress candidate Amar Singh cast his vote in Raikot, PDA candidate Manvinder Singh Giaspura cast his vote at Giaspura village and AAP candidate Shamsher Dullo also cast his vote with his family members.
