“The new Samsung wearables update includes several improvements, new interface, and more watch faces”
Samsung is currently rolling out a major software update to the Galaxy Watch, Gear S3, and Gear Sport smartwatches. The company recently unveiled the all-new One UI for wearables with the launch of the Galaxy Watch Active. The new interface is much cleaner, has less bloatware, and brings new elements with a minimalist approach. One UI will bring several changes to the interface and offer new features as well.
It should be noted that the One UI interface for the Samsung Galaxy Watch, Gear S3, and the Gear Sport is still based on Tizen OS. Samsung has always used its own custom OS on its watches. However, The update also includes some of new watch faces that were introduced with the Galaxy Watch Active.
The new update takes the firmware version to One UI 1.0 and includes improvements to workouts and sleep tracking. There’s a new profile for outdoor swimming, which is now available under workouts. The devices will also provide high heart rate alerts if it notices irregularities. As per the changelog, the update will now allow the smartwatches to track workouts faster. There’s a new Settings menu, better background app management, and the ability to turn on/off the sleep mode. You can also tap the display to wake up the smartwatch.
The update should also improve battery life on the smartwatches, making them last longer on a single charge. The Galaxy Watch is rated to last at least two days on a single charge. The Samsung Gear S3 is an older smartwatch, but has still received the new update. This is good news for owners of this particular watch. The new software update is being rolled out over-the-air and should take some time to be available for all users. The update is around 100MB in size. The new Galaxy Watch firmware version is R800XXU1CSE1, the Gear S3 version is R760XXU2ESE3, and the Gear Sport firmware is R600XXU1CSE2.
