The Karkala Town Municipal Council has urged its people to use water sparingly. A press release issued here on Monday said that drinking water was being supplied to the town from Mundli dam across the Swarna.
However, the river has gone dry. Hence, water is being lifted from the Ramasamudra lake in the town, and treated before being supplied to the people.
The lake had a stock of about 20 million litres of water.
Hence, water would be supplied to the town on alternate days till May 25 as it was being done now.
If there was no rain, then water would be supplied once in three days from May 25.
Hence, people living in the low-lying areas should use water judiciously so that water could reach the up-lying areas of the town. People should use water for drinking and essential purposes only. They should not use it to water their trees or gardens, the release said.
