Bunts Premiere League cricket tourney from May 24

Mangaluru: The maiden edition of Bunts Premier League (BPL) will get under way at Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management ground at Adyar near here from Friday. Organised by the youth from the Bunt community, the 3-day event aims to bring people from the community on to a single platform, will also help showcase cricketing talent of youth in the community, paving the way for them to progress in their quest to make the game their career.

Devi Charan Shetty, chairman, Bunts Premier League (BPL), told reporters on Tuesday that the 10-over-a-side event will see 8 franchisee teams – A J Warriors, Mijar Yerukulu, Royal Bunts, Leeds United, Polali Tigers, Tulunad Tigers, Mangalore Bulls and Kudla Super Kings. Eminent Bunts including Prashanth Shetty, Vijaynath Vittal Shetty, Kishore D Shetty, Rakshith Shetty and Sadananda Shetty are some prominent owners of the teams.
The tournament will be played on a round robin league format with the eight teams divided into two groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each pool will qualify for the knock-out stage of semi-finals and then the title round. The opening ceremony will be a fun-filled programme with entertainment featuring cine stars from the Bunts community, he said. Former mayor Mahabala Marla, Suresh Chandra Shetty and others were present.
