Carthage Humane Budget at 9

Jordan: on april 24th the carthage humane society board voted to fire executive director deborah bell.

That caused a lot of controversy and raised a number of questions.

Koam's chris warner sat down with the president of the board, to find out why they let her go, and what's next for the facility.

When the carthage humane society brought deborah bell on board, it was mired in controversy, following the resignation of then executive director craig putnam, and the facility's veterinarian, after an investigation revealed several malnourished animals.

Bell worked to turn the shelter's image around which jonathan roberts, who was board president during that time, and is board president now, says, she did.roberts: "we have been more than pleased with the improvements we have seen at the shelter with the staff that we have".

We spoke with bell on the phone when she was fired, and while she declined an interview, she told us the firing was unexpected, and that she couldn't imagine why the board would let her go.

So we sat down with roberts to find out why.roberts: "deborah made, requirements for her employment here, that the board can not meet, and she was given opportunities to, be on board as a team, and she chose sometimes to be solo and you know we, want to move forward as a group and not as an individual."

He couldn't go into the details, but did say she gave the board an ultimatum at a january meeting and the board gave her until april to change her mind, and when she didn't, they let her go.

Jordan: the city council is expected to discuss their feral cat ordinance at their meeting this friday, which could impact their agreement with the humane society.
