RANCHI: In a first, Jharkhand Academic Council (JAC) announced the result of intermediate arts in the month of May itself, publishing the results in a record time on Tuesday. Girls emerged triumphant as they not only surpassed the performance of boys in the terms of pass percentage but also dominated the top three spots in the results.
While 86,392 of the 1,05,998 girls appearing for intermediate arts cleared the examination taking their pass percentage to 81.50%, 61,076 out the 78,386 appearing male candidates were able to pass the examination with a pass percentage of 77.91%.

The overall pass percentage of the students increased by around seven percent from last year with 79.97% of the students clearing the exam this year against the pass percentage of 72.62% last year.
Talking to the media, JAC Chairman Arvind Prasad Singh said: “The improvement in the results can be largely accredited to the examiners involved in the process along with the students who have worked hard for the examinations. The use of newly deployed PGT teachers in copy correction raised many eyebrows but as it turns out, they acknowledged merit in the students and awarded marks accordingly.” Out of the 1,84,384 students appearing for the exam, 1,47,468 successfully passed the examination.
This year, a whopping 18,130 students secured first division marks in the intermediate arts stream while another 96,724 students scored second-division marks. The remaining 32,597 students passed the examination with third division marks in their kitty.
“This year, Simdega has emerged as the best performing district with a pass percentage of 97.67%. The second and third rank has been grabbed by Khunti and Ramgarh with a pass percentage of 96.17% and 92.29% respectively,” Singh added, announcing the statistics of the results.
With a pass percentage of 53.18%, Chatra has ended up on the bottom of the tally this year followed by Palamu with 63.43% students passing the examination.
Talking on the steps planned by JAC to further improve the results from the upcoming session, Singh added: “From the next session, we will be introducing monthly tests in all schools of the state at matriculation and intermediate level to help the students score even better. JAC’s decision to provide model question papers have yielded results this year with a jump is pass percentage across all streams and with monthly tests, we will be working towards even better performance.”
JAC secretary Mahip Kumar Singh said: “We have received a letter from BITS Pilani in Rajasthan inviting our intermediate topper for direct admission. This is a happy news as the students from the board have started improving their standard of performance and are now being recognized by institutions of national repute.”
