Gurgaon: A 23-year-old man allegedly committed
suicide at his home in Farrukhnagar following harassment by his in-laws, police said on Monday. The body of the man, Shyam, was found hanging from the ceiling fan at on Saturday. Police recovered a suicide note near the body, in which he accused his in-laws of thrashing and threatening him.
Shyam’s father Rohtash (63) said that his son married Renu, a resident of Narhera village, on March 8 last year. Renu gave birth to a daughter in December last year, he said.
“Shyam’s in-laws used to harass him whenever he visited his in-laws’ place. They demanded money from him and whenever he denied, they threatened to kill him. On May 10, my son dropped his
wife and daughter at his in-laws place. Last Saturday, when Shyam went there to get back his wife and daughter, his in-laws thrashed him,” the father wrote in the police complaint.
He added, “My wife found his body hanging from the ceiling fan. We then called police, who found a suicide note in which Shyam clearly mentioned that he took his life due the harassment.”
An FIR has been registered against the deceased’s father-in-law Ram Singh, mother-in-law Krishna, brother-in-law Monu, Kalwa, Teenu and Rohtas under sections 306 (abatement to suicide) and 34 (common intention) of the IPC at Farrukhnagar police station. “We have handed over the body to his family after the postmortem,” said inspector Krishan Kant Rohilla, SHO of Farrukhnagar police station.
