Gurgaon: Two days after a
bus accident on
Agra-Lucknow Expressway in
Unnao district in which six people, including four children, were killed and nearly 40 others sustained injuries, two of the
injured were shifted to a private hospital in
Old Gurgaon on Monday.
The bus was carrying passengers from Gurgaon to Bihar’s Madhubani.
Other injured have been admitted to different hospitals in Kanpur, Unnao, Lucknow,
Patna and Madhubani.
Most of the passengers travelling in the bus were migrant workers from
Bihar and worked in Gurgaon. They lived in the rented houses in Sector 10, Kadipur, AnajMandi, Khandsa, Shakti Park Colony in Gandhi Nagar and nearby areas.
Two injured were taken shifted to private hospital in Old Gurgaon on Monday while eight others were shifted to Bihar from a hospital in Unnao. Vishnu (40) and his wife Rita (35) run a dhaba in Sector 10 and they were going to Bihar to attend a wedding along with their sons — Ritesh (14) and Manish (11). Vishnu’s relative Ramvinod, who lives in Sector 10, was going to Bihar with his wife, daughter Nandani (8) and son Indra (6) to attend the same wedding. All four children died in the accident. Vishnu and his wife were shifted to Gurgaon while Ramvinod and his wife were taken to Bihar. According to reports, both the couples are in critical condition.
Unable to get ticket in train, Vishnu and many others had booked seats in the bus. The bus had started from Khandsa Mandi on Friday evening and was scheduled to reach Madhubani on Sunday. The accident happened on Saturday morning around 6 am in Unnao.
In last two-three years several bus services has started to connect Delhi-NCR with different parts of Bihar. Mostly people who unable to get ticket in overcrowded train in between Delhi and Bihar books seats in these bus services. According to UP police, the driver of the Volvo bus lost control over the vehicle while trying to avoid clashing with a tractor. The bus hit the divider and turned upside down in Bangarmau area on Agra-Lucknow Expressway under Unnao district.
Jaikumar, a friend of Vishnu, alleged that the bus was carrying passengers more than its capacity. “Children died due to overcrowded bus. Many people fell on the children and they died due to suffocation,” he alleged.He said Vishnu and his wife is critical and they are in trauma after knowing about death of their child. The bus was operated by a travel company owned by Shambhu Nath from Bihar. The travel company has five Volvo buses and it operates between Gurgaon and Madhubani. When TOI called the travel company’s office in Gurgaon they refused share details of capacity of the bus and number of passengers on board.
