Happy is an emotion almost everyone on the planet wishes they could feel all day every day. In reality, it can be challenging to feel regularly on a daily basis. While everyone's idea of happiness is different, at the core, everyone wants to lead a satisfying and rich life. If you think it's a pipe dream, think again. Sticking to a few habits can help you get your daily dose of happiness for life. Now, who wouldn't want that? If you are looking to make a few changes in your life, here are a few ways you can be happy every day.
02/8Volunteer
When you start helping those who are less fortunate you're bound to feel good about doing something that actually makes a difference. Even the littlest of good deeds will help make you feel like a better person. So, no matter what it is you can offer, go do your best. Whether it's volunteering at an animal shelter or cooking for the needy or lending money to someone who really needs it, helping others will help you stay happy.
03/8Enjoy your friendship
Try to meet up with your close friends as often as you can. These are the people who will always be there for you and will truly understand you as a person. Stay away from negative topics like gossip and venting about problems. Try to opt for light-hearted topics to talk about so that you can distract your mind and keep yourself happy.
04/8Meditate
One way to keep your mind calm and happy is to meditate. You don't need to take out a lot of time, all you need is 15 minutes of just sitting in peace with your eyes closed. The more positive thoughts you think, the better your mind and your body will feel.
05/8Smile
When you smile, your brain releases dopamine, which helps to make you even happier. However, you don't have to walk around with a fake smile all day to achieve this. You can start this habit by thinking of something happy that has happened in your life. Try looking in the mirror and smiling at yourself. It may be awkward to just crack a smile at what may feel like nothing. However, over time you may notice a huge shift in your attitude and start to feel more positive.
06/8Exercise
Exercise isn't just great for the body, it can also do wonders for the soul. Even a little bit of physical activity can help tackle stress and anxiety. If you are suffering from depression, take a walk and get some sunshine. You could also try stretching for a few minutes in the morning. Another option you can try is to take a class like yoga or pilates. Try a fun activity you can enjoy to make you feel good, which will make you feel happy.
07/8Sleep
Getting enough sleep may just help tackle half your issues. A good seven to eight hours of sleep can boost brain function and improve your emotional well-being. Make sure that you switch off all the digital devices and lights at least 30 minutes before bedtime. You should also avoid eating anything just before bed as it may keep you up all night. Find a good bedtime routine that will put you in a relaxed state to help you sleep better. Consult with a doctor if you think nothing works and you are having a hard time getting enough rest.
08/8Eat foods depending on your mood
There are certain foods that can have an impact on the brain. A "feel good' hormone called serotonin is released when you consume carbohydrates. However, consume this in moderation. Opt for beans and whole grains instead of foods high in starch. Protein-rich foods release dopamine and norepinephrine in the body that helps to give you more energy and help you concentrate on tasks better. You could also make note of what you eat so you can track what foods are better options to feel good.
