Hubballi: A-24-year old
youth who had sustained severe burn injuries while trying to prevent a fire from spreading to a school in
Yeliwal village in Hangal died on Monday evening.
The deceased is Maruti Rangannavar of Yeliwal. According to sources, a haystack near a school caught fire on last Saturday. Maruti who was passing by noticed that the fire was spreading to the nearby school and tried to douse it by using small branches of a tree.
In an attempt to douse the fire, he had climbed up the terrace of the school. While doing so, he lost his balance and fell in to the burning hay stack. The youth sustained serious burn injuries and was rushed to
KIMS Hospital after first aid at a hospital in Hangal.
KIMS superintendent Dr Arun Kumar said that despite their best efforts, the youth did not respond to treatment and breathed his last on Tuesday night.
