Vacancy due to election as MLA

The process of filing of nominations for the vacancy in Legislative Council began on Tuesday in accordance with the schedule notified by the Election Commission.

The vacancy was created following the resignation of TRS MLC Mynampally Hanmanth Rao, who was elected MLA from Malkajgiri constituency. He tendered his resignation from the Council on December 11, the day of declaration of the results of the Assembly elections, and it was accepted immediately.

The Commission released the schedule for by-election to the seat on May 14. Accordingly, the issue of nominations began on Tuesday and the last date of filing nominations is May 28. The scrutiny of the nominations would be taken up on May 29 and May 31 is the last date for withdrawal of nominations.

Election for the post would be held on June 7 with polling scheduled between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Counting of votes would be taken up at 5 p.m. the same day and the EC has fixed June 10 as the deadline for the completion of the election process to the vacant seat.

Legislature secretary V. Narasimha Charyulu, who is also the returning officer for the election, said aspiring candidates or their proposers could submit their papers to the officials concerned at the State Legislature between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on any day other than public holidays.

Election for the vacancy, if necessary, would be held at the Committee Hall No. 1 of the Assembly buildings on June 7.
