Balasore: A student of Pundarungi village, under Basta block of Balsore district, allegedly committed
suicide after he failed in the Class 10 board examination conducted by the Board of Secondary Education (BSE), Odisha, on Tuesday.
The deceased, who has been identified as Sankarsan Sethi, was a student of Gandhiji High School in Mandurukula village under Balasore Sadar block.
According to sources, Sethi had appeared for the examination this year and reportedly consumed poison after seeing his results in the matriculation examination. Though his family members rushed him to the Basta community health centre (CHC), the student died while undergoing treatment.
Budhiram Sethi, a relative of the deceased, said Sankarsan became mentally unstable after he got to know that he failed in his exam. He was sleeping when other members of the family had gone out for work, Budhiram added.
“When we saw Sethi vomiting, we enquired about his health. He then told us that he consumed pesticide as he failed to clear his exams,” Budhiram said, adding that though he was immediately taken to the Basta community health centre, Sethi did not survive.
Basta police have registered a case and sent her body for a postmortem examination.
