In some respect, Autolib was a service quite literally ahead of its time: regular users of car-sharing services today may be unable to conceive how such options were available and could even work at a time that pre-dated the widespread use of smartphones and reliable data networks. And yet work they did, with a fleet of 4,000 vehicles available to 110,000 subscribers at its height.
