Kanpur: A major fire broke out at a leather tannery unit in Shiv Godavri area of Jajmau on Saturday morning destroying property and raw material worth several lakhs, on Tuesday morning.
The fire spread to other portions of the unit.

Meanwhile, factory workers and locals alerted the Jajmau fire station. Several fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire. It took nearly an hour for the firefighters to douse the flames. “A short circuit might have caused the fire,” said fire station officer AK Singh.
“The exact cause for the fire is yet to be ascertained. The loss is yet to be ascertained,” said a police official at Chakeri police station.
